Bio

Terry D Ward is an Orlando, Florida based Contemporary Jazz Musician, Composer and Arranger. He is a multi-instrumentalist, whose main instruments are tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, but also plays keyboards, guitar, drums and a special wind synthesizer called an EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument). His music is self produced, performed and recorded.

Terry D Ward followed in the footsteps of his father, who was also a Jazz saxophonist and band leader and began performing in his father’s band at the age of eight, playing drums. He subsequently picked up the saxophone at age thirteen under his father’s tutelage. By the age of nineteen he decided to follow his brothers to Howard University, Washington DC where he subsequently enrolled and continued to perform with top local bands, while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Music Education/Jazz studies. He has also collaborated on several summer projects in Los Angeles and New York, including with  Doris Troy of “Just one look ” fame. Upon receiving his Howard University Baccalaureate in Civil Engineering, he accepted several high level Management Engineering positions, while continuing to remain active musically on several recording projects. However after a long successful Engineering career, he has finally come full circle and decided to return to his first love of being a Professional Musician.

If the reactions of his audiences are any indication, Terry D Ward has finally found his musical voice and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the new Contemporary Jazz scene. His style and music has been frequently compared to the late great Grover Washington Jr and the big, warm sound of the great jazz icon Dexter Gordon. Terry D Ward now owns his own recording studio and runs an independent record label, “Green Heart Records” where he is producing several new emerging artists in addition to producing his own recordings. His new CD “Impermanence” is scheduled for release in early 2021.
